Our well-equipped Research & Development centre supports daily production, new products and process developments.
Our R&D centre delivers daily technical support and measurement data to ensure all stages of production, from casting to coil despatch, are controlled and optimal.
Staffed by a dedicated team with expertise in metallurgy, materials science, surface science and chemistry, we provide high level research, technical knowledge and analytical measurement data for a wide range of process and product development projects.
Our laboratories house a range of state-of-the-art apparatus and analytical systems allowing detailed measurement of our rolling oils, emulsions and cooling fluids which are vital to the various casting, hot-rolling, cold-rolling and finishing operations.
Spectrophotometry ensures any effluent and waste streams meet regulations and ensure the environment is protected.
Our metallography and microscopy laboratory allows detailed measurement of the internal microstructure of our aluminium products.
Controlling how this microstructure evolves through our thermo-mechanical processes ensures the final product meets the stringent property requirements of our customers.
This is also important when developing new alloys and products. Programmable laboratory ovens allow simulation of our thermal heat treatments such as pre-heating and annealing.
Optical microscopy, electron microscopy and X-ray analysis enables more detailed measurement of the bulk and surface properties.
